Poetry is a way of life.
It’s memory, empathy, epiphany,
and it’s more than just a creative outlet.
Poetry creates and reinvents perspective
to connect us.
I studied poetry during undergrad and experienced a wealth of inspiration. Recently, poetry has guided and shaped my life. Here’s a glimpse into my process.
It's not enough to be a writer, one must love the craft and the community surrounding it. The setting, the characters, the events matter on the page as well as in the moment.
This is the task of a writer, to create stories, here and now.
I'm not a big reader, since most of my free time is spent writing, but I have enjoyed a fascination with books. Complex and unique bindings, rare publications and interesting histories all come across my desk at the library.
I've even taken up the practice of coptic stitch bookbinding. It's a complex process that requires thoughtful planning and a steady hand, not unlike poetry.
